Thankful That God Sees Me
God Notices the Details of the Invisible
Read: Genesis 16:9-14
Do you ever feel invisible?
Hagar had run away. She had run away from Sarai and Abram and from the harsh way that they had treated her. She had run into the wilderness and away from her problems. Some problems have a way of following us, don’t you think?
While she had run away from Sarai and Abram, she was still pregnant with Abram’s child. She was still far away from her homeland and her own people. She probably felt lonely, confused, and angry. She probably felt invisible.
That all changed when the angel of the Lord found her by a spring in the wilderness and beckoned her to return from where she was running away. The angel of the Lord had addressed her concerns of where to run to. The angel of the Lord had even told her of the son that she would later birth. God had pointed out the intimate details of her life. He had spoken to her like a close confidante and not like a stranger.
By the end of Hagar’s encounter with the angel of the Lord, she couldn’t help but proclaim that “You are a God of seeing. Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.” (Genesis 16:13 ESV) She was no longer invisible. She was seen by God.
Friend, you are not invisible. You have never been invisible. You have been seen by the One who looks after you.
- In what way has God made it clear to you that He sees the intimate details of your life?
