Thankful for the Encouragers
Who Stands Next to You?
Read Ruth 1:16-17 and Ruth 4:14-15
Naomi was devastated to the point of being unrecognizable. When she walked into her hometown, people asked: “Is this Naomi?” They recognized her form, but something was not quite right. She was heartbroken, devastated, and overcome with grief. Some struggles change us to the point of being unrecognizable. We’re heartbroken, devastated, and overcome with grief.
Maybe you’ve lost a loved one. Maybe illness has stolen something from you. Like Naomi, maybe you look at your struggles and see no hope. While you’re looking at Naomi, let your eyes drift to the one who stands next to her. Who is there beside her?
Ruth stood next to Naomi as she was unwilling to let Naomi walk through her struggles all alone. Take a look around you. Who stands next to your side, beckoning you to keep on walking, and reminding you of the light at the end of the struggle?
At the beginning of Naomi’s story, people could hardly recognize her. At the end of her story, they raved about Ruth’s faithfulness and goodness. Ruth’s presence encouraged Naomi to hope for her future. Where Naomi had once seen despair and hopelessness, Ruth brought life, hope, and joy. Ruth was her encourager. Where we see struggle, who is reminding us to see the joy? Who reminds you of your many blessings?
- Who are your encouragers? Write down their names and the specific ways that they have served as your encouragement.
