7 Reasons Why I'm Thankful for My Husband

Recently, I had the honor and privilege of writing on my friend, Madison's new blog, Ways of the Weavers. I highly encourage you to check out her new blog. Madison writes about marriage, home decor, and shares delicious recipes. On Madison's blog and in honor of my seven-year wedding anniversary, I chose to write regarding the lessons I've learned about communication in the last seven years. Be sure to check it out!

Today, I wanted to take the lessons of communication a step further and share seven reasons why I'm thankful for my husband.

I can't help but think of this post as a way to look up from the chaos of our lives and to make eye contact with my husband. Raising two little boys who constantly vie for our attention means that most of our contact is made over the top of our children's heads as they beg for this or that. In the midst of the chaos and the hustle and bustle of our lives, we whisper our I love you's.

So as I look over the hustle and bustle of my life, let me share a few thoughts on my amazing husband.

Here are seven reasons why I'm thankful

My husband notices me. Our lives seem to get so busy. They're filled to the brim with interruptions, responsibilities, to-do lists, and ambitions. My husband takes the time to look above the brim of our life and he notices me. He notices when the day has been too overwhelming. He notices my effort around the house.

My husband works hard. I notice when he is so exhausted from taking care of our son during the night that going to work in the morning takes more effort than it should. I notice when he is stressed about his work-related responsibilities. I notice the weight of providing for his family weighs on his shoulders. I see it. I appreciate it.

My husband puts his family first. If I ever needed an example of servant leadership, I just have to look at the man who stands next to me. He serves his family in a variety of ways as he leads us. He makes dinner. He helps with the kids. He helps around the house. He notices his family's needs and seeks to meet them.

My husband is goofy. He's goofy, nerdy, geeky, and he makes me laugh like no one else. He makes those around him laugh with ease. It takes little effort on his part to cheer the people around him up.

My husband loves well. Through tears, trials, frustration, confusion, and misunderstanding, I can always count on him to be by my side. He's faithful and loyal. He's generous. He's steadfast. He's reliable.

My husband is generous. My husband is the most giving person I know. He sacrificially gives of his time, energy, and talent to better the world around him. I've seen him volunteer to help his parents replace a bay window in the middle of 100+ degree weather. My husband sacrifices his own comforts to bring comfort to others.

My husband is ambitious. I don't ever see my husband settling for anything. He always challenges himself to step it up in various avenues of his life. In his own interests, he dreams big. He sets goals for himself that he works hard to meet. Ambition is sexy! He's always learning, always striving, always looking for ways to simplify and step it up.

Have you looked at your spouse lately? Have you looked at them with eyes of gratitude as you thought about the amazing blessing that stands beside you? I challenge you to do so. Grab a card and write out a few reasons you're thankful for your spouse. Leave it in a location where they're sure to find the card and be encouraged!
