I'm going to let you in on one of my biggest pet peeves. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people who are unwilling to try something new because of their age. Younger folks complain that they don't have the life experience for some big dream they have, so they refuse to pursue the dream. Older folks claim to have too much life experience for a dream they play around with, so they don't pursue the dream.
These dreams can be completely God-given and God-inspired, yet people (old and young alike) are unwilling to be obedient to God and His call on their lives.
If God knows how many hairs are on our head (Matt 10:30) and whether or not some of them are of the gray persuasion, then would he really be surprised to learn our age? I actually wonder if God cares how old we are at all.
I mean, He calls Abram and Sarai (later Abraham and Sarah), and Zechariah and Elizabeth to bear children well past the age people usually have children. Abraham was stinking old! Then on the flip side, we have an eight-year-old king (Josiah), and a “youth” who faces a giant and an experienced warrior (David against Goliath). So I ask again, does our age even matter to God?
I can’t say that I have ever read in the Bible a verse talking about how GOD SAYS that “You’re too old/young to be used.” or “You’re too old/young to do the impossible.”
So what does matter to God? The condition of our heart. Are we teachable? Are we willing? Do we trust Him? Is God who He says He is and will He do what He says He will do?
So maybe he’s calling you, a young looking 300-year-old, to lead a youth group. Or maybe he’s calling you, a child, to go places and to do things that most adults are too afraid to do. Whatever He’s calling you to, God is calling YOU! You are of perfect age to follow God’s leading. You’re at the perfect age for God’s plan and His purpose for Your life!
